This month’s edition of “One To Watch” features Nina Crump.
“Break Free With Praise” is the title of the latest recording from native Washingtonian Nina Crump. With a musical gift that has seen her singing for over 30 years, Nina is sharing her talent with the world on her new gospel CD.
Produced by 2007 Stellar Award winner, Isaiah Thomas, “Break Free With Praise” not only displays the artist’s impressive songwriting ability, but her strong faith as well on her sophomore release. Although a little hesitant initially to step into a studio, Nina says, “For the ten years, people had been saying to me, ‘Nina, you really need to get a CD out’ but I wasn’t sure. I told God that if this was meant to be, then let me know.” With confirmation from God, Nina released her debut “Still Giving Him Praise” in 2006.
Well, fans of Crump’s ministry should be excited that she’s back with a 4-track musical offering, a release that will be followed by a full-length CD in 2008. The aptly-titled project, “Break Free With Praise” contains songs of adoration and praise to the Lord.
Nina Crump opens this fabulously produced project with the upbeat praise song, “Awesome, Awesome”, a catchy song with strong elements of contemporary gospel and pop. The song’s theme centers around the God’s amazing qualities. Nina pens this festive track along with the other songs as well.
One of the “baddest” tracks on the project is the funk- laced song, “Turn It Around”. It’s a mesmerizing, urban-infused cut about how the Lord can come through and “turn it around”. The Free Gospel Deliverance Temple member sings this one with conviction and meshes a strong gospel message over a slamming beat.
Slowing the pace down a little, Nina sings a song of gratitude during the track “Thank You”. With a relaxed effect, the contemporary mellow cut will have listeners swaying to the melody with lifted hands. Taking us back to the pews, Crump exhibits probably her best vocal performance on the church-inspired “You’ve Been Good”. It’s a pretty tune with just piano and emotive soprano vocals.
Nina Crump will certainly earn even more fans with “Break Free With Praise”. For more information on Nina Crump, go to www.praises4him.com.
